Couture Process

Every Surreal Ateliers gown is a journey — from a spark of inspiration to a finished heirloom. Here’s how we bring your dream to life:

Step 1: Inquiry & Consultation

  • Discuss your vision, event dates, and inspiration.
  • We outline your budget, timeline, and next steps.
  • Client brings: event details, inspiration photos (optional).

Step 2: Colour Palette Selection

  • We refine hues based on skin tone, lighting, and venue décor.
  • A curated palette of primary, accent, and metallic tones is shared.
  • Client brings: colour preferences, jewellery or décor references.

Step 3: Silhouette & Sketch

  • We design the gown silhouette and create initial sketches.
  • Fit notes: neckline, sleeves, train, and proportions.
  • Client provides: feedback on style and proportions.

Step 4: Fabric Curation

  • Selection of base fabrics (organza, jamawar, velvet, silk, net).
  • Recommendations based on drape, comfort, and finish.
  • Client provides: preferences for comfort/weight.

Step 5: Embellishment Blueprint

  • Planning motifs and techniques (zardozi, dabka, naqshi, Swarovski crystals, gota, resham).
  • Mapping out embellishment density (light, medium, heavy).
  • Client provides: desired sparkle/embellishment level.

Step 6: Measurements & Toile

  • Precision measurements taken.
  • A cotton toile (test version) created for initial fit.
  • Client provides: shoes/undergarments similar to event day.

Step 7: Embroidery Sampling

  • A sample swatch panel is created.
  • Final approvals are obtained before full embroidery begins.
  • Client provides: feedback/approval.

Step 8: Couture Production

  • Master artisans hand-embroider and construct your gown.
  • Timeline varies: 3–8 weeks embroidery, 1–2 weeks construction.
  • Client provides: availability for quick approvals.

Step 9: First Fitting

  • Fit, comfort, and movement are checked.
  • Alteration plan prepared if needed.
  • Client brings: event jewellery and shoes.
